CiaoNovel works differently: you tell it what your protagonist does, step by step — the AI helps you: it writes together with you, not instead of you.

Every choice is yours: one paragraph at a time, never losing the thread. The direction of the story comes from what you decide. The AI proposes, corrects, keeps everything consistent — but the novel stays yours from the first idea to the final word. And, if you use our TramaEngine AI writing assistant, your texts are never used to train artificial intelligence models.

How the AI assistant works

The Beacon: your story’s compass
At the start of the novel we define the Beacon together: the direction of the story, its genre, tone, point of view and style, the characters and the places. With every paragraph you approve, the Beacon updates with what has just happened. It isn’t a cage: your narrative stays free to surprise you, but it never loses its course.
One step at a time, one paragraph after another
Tell what happens or what your protagonist does, and the story continues in that direction, with no outline decided in advance. After every paragraph the AI offers you three ways to move forward. You can choose one, invent another or write the text yourself, by hand.
Nothing gets lost along the way
Every character and every place has its own card, which you can review and edit whenever you like. The AI keeps track of everything that has happened, the current scene, who is present and what the reader and the characters know, along with the last paragraphs you wrote.
Complete a manuscript
You can also upload your own unfinished draft: we’ll pick up the story exactly where you left it, respecting the plot and style you’ve already set, so you can keep writing together all the way to the last page.
Ghostwriter
A text editor all your own and, beside it, Ghostwriter: you talk to it in a chat, it reads everything you have written and can edit it directly, following your directions. If you don’t like the result, go back with one tap.
Multi-author writing
Share a link with anyone you like: they’ll be able to follow your novel live, vote on the alternatives for how the story continues, and chat with you in real time, until you end the session.
Two-Player Game
Write a novel together with a friend, taking turns: you choose the story together and pass the pen every few paragraphs, with a notification when it’s your turn. (available only with a TramaEngine Premium subscription)
Sequels and prequels
Your novel is finished, but the story isn’t. Upload a book you’ve already written and create its sequel, or tell what happened before. The characters and the world of the original novel come with you, and you start your story again from wherever it needs to begin.
Gamebook
You are the protagonist: choose a genre and a starting idea, and the story begins. Gamebooks come in four kinds: classic, an open world to explore, multiplayer to live alongside other people, and a shared world where you meet other users. Once the story is finished you can publish it as a gamebook on CiaoNovel Read, or save it as a novel to export and print. (multiplayer and shared world: available only with a TramaEngine Premium subscription)
Check structure, style and consistency
Ask the AI to reread your novel: it tells you where the story holds up and where it’s weak, underlines style mistakes in the text and points out contradictions and repeated sentences. You choose what to fix: nothing changes without your consent. (available only with a TramaEngine Premium subscription)
Courses
Pick any subject and a private AI teacher builds a course tailored to you: every lesson has its exercises and flashcards, with images where they help you understand and, in language courses, phrases to listen to with a voice. Your answers get corrected and you can ask your questions in the chat. You choose which lessons to create, and when. (available only with a TramaEngine Premium subscription)
Audio courses
The same private AI teacher, but to listen to like a podcast: every lesson is a talk recorded with CiaoNovel’s voice (pick the voice you prefer), with pauses to answer out loud or in your head. Choose which lessons to create, listen whenever you like and download them as mp3. (available only with a TramaEngine Premium subscription)
Socratic tutor
Ask anything: the tutor doesn’t hand you the answer right away, it guides you with questions to find it yourself, so you truly understand instead of copying. Your conversations stay in a list, and you can resume or export them whenever you like. (available only with a TramaEngine Premium subscription)
Your diary
Write your pages every day, saved automatically and stored encrypted. If you like, the AI reworks what you wrote, faithful to your words or with more detail, without adding facts you didn’t write. And one day you can turn your diary into a novel.

Write down your notes, saved automatically and encrypted. If you like, the AI reorganizes them: it fixes mistakes, puts them in order and makes lists, without inventing or removing anything. And you can always bring back the original text.

Encrypted chat between authors and readers
Chat privately or in groups with other CiaoNovel users. Swap your personal code or scan the QR code: nobody can contact you without your permission. Security is guaranteed by end-to-end encryption: your messages are visible only to you and to whoever receives them, not even CiaoNovel can read them.

Inclusivity and accessibility

CiaoNovel is designed to be used by everyone, at their own pace and with their own tools. Whatever device you have or however you prefer to read, it adapts to you.

Custom display
Make the text bigger or smaller with a tap. Choose the theme that is easiest on your eyes — Minimal, Dark, Papyrus or Raspberry — and customize the colors. For maximum clarity there is the high-contrast theme, black on white, also designed for e-ink readers.
Read aloud
Listen to novels instead of reading them, in the language of the text. Choose the voice and the speed, even very slow, with a pause between sentences. The available voices depend on your device: if you want more or better-quality ones, you can install more from your phone’s or computer’s settings.
Audiobooks
CiaoNovel can turn the books in your Read library into audiobooks, in the languages it supports. The voice is of higher quality than your device’s automatic reading. You can choose between two voices, a female and a male one, after listening to a preview. Audiobooks are made with AI credits, play in the CiaoNovel player and, once complete, can be downloaded as mp3. (available only with a TramaEngine Premium subscription)
Without a connection, in the apps
In the CiaoNovel apps you can read and listen even without a connection: the books in your library and those you bought in the Showcase, free and paid, with their translations and audiobooks. The website and the other devices, instead, work online only.
In your language
The interface is available in 12 languages: Italian, English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Arabic. On e-ink readers you can use CiaoNovel in Italian, English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian.
On every device
CiaoNovel works in the browser even on older computers, with nothing to install. You can also find it on:

Open Source
The CiaoNovel code for every device (e-ink readers, Raspberry Pi, terminal, Android and the others in preparation) is public on GitHub: you can read the code, download every release (APKs included), report problems and suggest improvements. Find it at github.com/ciaonovel/devices.

2. TramaEngine Premium (/month): the complete story assistant
TramaEngine is CiaoNovel’s writing engine. It’s much more than an AI assistant: it combines advanced language models with a narrative memory that follows your pace, one paragraph at a time.
  • Remembers every detail. With every paragraph it keeps in mind everything that has happened, the characters and the places of the story. So you won’t end up with a protagonist who changes age or with inconsistencies halfway through the book.
  • Takes care of form. It fixes punctuation and dialogue according to the rules of the language you write in.
  • Polishes the result. It doesn’t stop at the draft. It analyzes the structure of your novel and shows you where the story needs more strength. It rereads the style sentence by sentence to find mistakes and repeated habits. Designed for those who already have an OpenRouter API key and want complete freedom over the language model, while using CiaoNovel’s memory and chapter management.
  • Complete freedom of choice: enter your API key and write every paragraph with the model you prefer. You pay OpenRouter only for what you actually use.
  • A blank canvas for your style: no preset rules: the AI responds only to your commands and your vision.
  • A complete ecosystem: CiaoNovel surrounds your model with narrative memory and chapter management.
  • Total security: your API key is never stored on our servers. It stays on your device, encrypted.
  • What’s not included: structure, style and consistency analysis, the creative writing course, courses, audio courses, the Socratic tutor, the chat with Novi, audiobook creation, the Two-Player Game, multiplayer gamebooks and shared worlds are reserved for TramaEngine. Books written with your own key can’t be published on CiaoNovel Read: publishing and selling requires TramaEngine.
  • First month free: your card is requested right away and the first charge comes after 30 days. If you turn off renewal before then, you go back to the free plan without paying. One trial per person.

Full control over your published books

You decide the cover price of the books you publish on CiaoNovel Read, even free if you prefer, and you can withdraw them from sale at any time. 

Once published, books stay on sale indefinitely even if your subscription has expired, letting you keep earning from your work (you can still remove them from the Showcase at any time if you want).

Copyright always stays yours, and you’re free to publish your work on other platforms too. A Premium TramaEngine subscription is required to publish on CiaoNovel Read.
