CiaoNovel works outside the browser too. Here you will find every supported device, one by one. The code is public on GitHub.
CiaoNovel from the command line: numbered menus, text only. To install it: pipx install ciaonovel (or pip install ciaonovel), then run ciaonovel. On first run it shows a link and a code to connect it to your account, with no password in the terminal. The full guide is coming soon.
The CiaoNovel app for Android phones and tablets, from the Play Store. You sign in with the same account as the website.
The same app, installed directly from the APK file, without going through any store. Download the file on your phone, open it and, if Android asks, allow installing from this source. To update, download the file again.
The same app for e-ink readers that run Android: it starts with the high-contrast theme (black on white) and the top bar has no theme buttons; you can still change the theme from Settings. It is installed from the APK file, as above.
The CiaoNovel app for Mac, with an Apple or Intel processor: it is the shell of the website, with all its features. You sign in with the same account, and your content is always in sync.
The app is not signed by Apple, so the first time your Mac blocks it. To open it:
On macOS 14 (Sonoma) or earlier this also works: right-click (or Control-click) CiaoNovel in Applications → Open → Open.
If your Mac says the app is damaged, or “Open Anyway” does not appear, open Terminal, type this command and then open CiaoNovel again:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/CiaoNovel.app
A ready-made SD card with CiaoNovel: write it, put it in the Raspberry Pi, switch it on, and it connects to your Wi-Fi and your account by itself. It works with an HDMI screen and a keyboard; with the Raspberry Pi 400 the keyboard can also serve Kindle, Kobo and Xteink.
The pages for the other devices are coming soon.
